Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, through the great work of our Project Manager Wikitoria Blandina Diamond Tūwharetoa Settlement Trust has continued to progress its mahi towards a kāinga strategy for Tūwharetoa, which is focused on three key areas: affordable housing, assured housing and healthy and accessible homes. You can reach the background on the Strategy here.

To date, we have completed some key parts of the Tūwharetoa Kāinga Strategy, which includes an in-depth analysis of the housing crisis in Aotearoa, collation of statistics within our own rohe, and an investigation of what resources and solutions are being implemented by local and national Government, NGOs and Māori across the country.

So, we want to take this opportunity to share with you some of the preliminary research in this pānui. Click here to read a preliminary summary of Parts 1-3 of our Strategy.

Next steps

We remain on track to completing our Tūwharetoa Kāinga Strategy document in June of this year. Once this is done, we look forward to sharing the entire strategy document with you. The intention is that this will be a comprehensive guide to the housing resources and programmes that are available, so that we can help our people get started on the path to better housing conditions.

We are now also currently developing processes for a formal ‘registration of interest’ by members or other trusts who would be interested in being involved in the implementation of this strategy. In addition, we are identifying specific Trust and land blocks available to be included in the implementation of the strategy, as well as what resources will be required to get this planned, organised and implemented.
