• over 18 years of age

For the Affordable Homeownership Opportunities you will need to

• be registered with the Tūwharetoa Settlement Trust
• be over 18 years of age
• preference is First Home Buyer(s)
• preference will be given to those whānau who live within a 50 km radius of the development
• to have or be close to securing a pre-approval for home lending and meet the financial obligations required by lenders
• this would be $550,000 for a 2-bedroom or $650,000 for a 3-bedroom home.

Aē, if your aspirations are to build yourself or whānau, a whare on whenua Māori connected to the services we can work with you to secure lending through the Kāinga Whenua scheme.

If you are looking to build Papakāinga on behalf of a Trust our Kāinga Rua programme may be better suited.

Neither He Iwi Kāinga nor the Tūwharetoa Settlement Trust provide funds for a deposit towards your new home.

Our team will provide advice and advocacy on the requirements for home ownership and work with whānau to explore other options of building a deposit.

Most lenders require a deposit of 10-20% of the home’s value. For a 2-bedroom whare priced at $550,000, this would be between $55,000–$110,000. For a 3-bedroom whare priced at $650,000, the deposit would range from $65,000–$130,000.

Currently, we are working to develop a range of 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom homes as part of the Whai Kāinga programme. These homes are built with whānau in mind, offering quality and affordability in either Taupō or Tūrangi.
