Q How do I become a beneficiary of a FHC Trust?

A Hapū within each FHC will ultimately decide eligibility criteria for their own FHC Trust and set it out in their Trust Deed.

Q Can I become a beneficiary of only one FHC Trust?

A No, if you whakapapa to more than one FHC you should be eligible to become a beneficiary of each FHC Trust as long as you fulfil their eligibility criteria as defined within their FHC Trust Deed.

Q Will all FHC Trusts do the same things?

A That is for each individual FHC Trust to decide. TST is only responsible for helping to establish these Trusts and their supporting infrastructure.

Q I don’t know much about the FHC process but I would like to, how do I found out more about what is going on?

A The easiest way to learn more about the process is to ensure that your TST registration details are up to date so that you receive any new FHC material as it becomes available; keep an eye on this website for updates; and attend FHC related hapū hui when they occur.

Q There are a number of Trusts within Tuwharetoa already, what is so different about TST?

A The Tuwharetoa Settlement Trust was established as the Post Settlement Governance Entity (PSGE) for Ngati Tuwharetoa to receive its share of the CNI Iwi Collective settlement. As such TST supports all Tuwharetoa hapu within the rohe as recognised in the Trust Deed.

Q What is the purpose of the TST?

A The purpose of TST as set out in its Trust Deed is to receive, hold, manage and administer the trust fund for the purpose of benefiting the Iwi and the beneficiaries.

Q What types of grants does TST provide?

A TST currently provides kaumatua, general purpose, education, sports and home heating grants to groups and individuals. TST also provides marae grants for maintenance, operation, programs and redevelopment/infrastructure.

Q I am a member of Tuwharetoa, how can I get a grant?

A To be eligible to apply for a grant, you need to be a registered beneficiary of TST. If you meet the requirements for a specific grant, you may then apply for that grant. TST trustees meet regularly to decide grant recipients.

Q I am already registered with other Tuwharetoa Trusts, was I automatically registered with the TST?

A No, each Trust within Tuwharetoa is governed by its own Trust Deed and as such each Trust is required to keep its own beneficiary list. To be eligible to receive benefits from TST you must be a registered beneficiary of TST.

Q How can I register to be a beneficiary with the TST?

A You can register to be a beneficiary of TST via the online registration form on the website, over the phone, in person at the TST office or you can complete and return a registration form which is available at the office and can be mailed to you on request.

Q My husband/wife/partner does not whakapapa to Tuwharetoa, are they still eligible to be a beneficiary?

A No, only individuals who whakapapa to Ngati Tuwharetoa are eligible to be beneficiaries of TST. Some exceptions do apply, further inquiries can be made through the TST office.

Q I don’t know my hapu or marae, how can I find out?

A If you are unsure of your hapu or marae, you can contact the TST office and request assistance. To enable staff to assist you, you should provide as much information as you can.

Q How can I become a Trustee?

A Any beneficiary of TST that meets the criteria as stated in the TST Trust Deed can stand as a candidate for Trustee election. Elections are held every three years. Refer to the TST Trust deed for more information.

Q I have a question that is not answered on this website, where can I go to find more information?

A Further inquiries can be made by phone, email, facebook or calling into the office.
